(Individual note) Family information is from the will of John Kellum Truitt, Sr. (Worcester Co. Wills, MH 10:19), 19 July 1813, probated 8 Oct 1813. To wife Mary; son John Kellum, Jr., daughters Sarah, Elizabeth Schoolfield, Mary and Henrietta.

(Individual note) While John Kellum Truitt did not inherit any land from his father, he and his wife did from his wife's father. On 12 July 1798, John K. and his wife deeded parts of these inherited lands "Scotland" and "Spladen," to James B. Robins and in return, James B. Robins and wife deeded to John K. and his wife deeded to John 9 acres of "Scotland." (Worcester Deeds S: 361 and T: 58). On 11 April 1800, John K. qualified as a constable for Bogerternortin Hundred (Wor. Deeds T:517). On 18 March 1802, John K. purchased from Littleton R. Purnell, parts of the tract, "Partnership" and "Number One." (Wor. Deeds V:62.) On 26 Feb. 1803, he and wife Mary sold to Purnell, "Scotland" and "Spalden;" the deed describes these tracts as originally owned by John Teague, who left them to his son William. William Teague died, leaving only two daughters: Sally, who married Joseph Stevenson and Mary, who married John K. Truitt; Stevenson and his wife sold their share to the Truitts. In the same Deed, a tract called "Addition to Spalden" patented by John Kellum Truitt was sold (Wor. Deeds V: 402). On April 1, 1811, John K. purchased 20 acres of "Nonesuch" from Henry Cropper (Wor. Deeds AB: 369).

On the basis of the family record, believed to have been copied from an old Bible, we must discount that information. She gives Polly's birth date as 26 April 1800, and death as 9 July 1891. That birthdate is difficult to reconcile with the birth of Samuel P. Truitt on 31 Dec. 1800. - HAW

(Individual note) Will of John Truitt: John Truitt died 1823, but his Will was made 9 July 1822 and probated 27 August 1823. He provided that Littleton R. Tummen (Timmons?), Lemuel P. Spence and his brother James Truitt should sell his land to pay his debts. He left furniture to his wife, Henny, and provided that she should have the management of his estate to raise their (unnamed) children. Lemuel P. Spence was executor of Will.

(Individual note) On 3 March 1821, James Truitt, John Truitt and Laban Hudson (husband of their sister Margaret) of Worcester Co., Md., deeded to Samuel Porter for \$1778.00, 220 acres Mulberyy Grove, beginning at the SE corner of the land which Benjamin Truitt bought from Round Truitt adjoining the Road from Stephen Purnell's store to Cedar Town, and the lands of Ambrose White, Purnell Johnson, Samuel Johnson and thomas Brittingham, and road from Basket Town to River Bridge, near where Matthew Purnell now lives. Margaret, wife of James Truitt and Henrietta, wife of John Truitt, gave consent.
